What to do in Guatemala

Guatemala with JB Journeys

A visit to Guatemala is a step back in time.

JB Journeys ™ has chosen a few unique travel experiences for you to see another world, meet local people who offer unique hospitality, tour the ancient Mayan cities, observe incredible wildlife in 19 different eco-systems, shop for high quality crafts at markets, seek a spiritual renewal, observe holy traditions, and travel along rivers like the ancient Maya.

Among the world’s most colorful celebrations is Semana Santa in the ancient capital of Antigua. Holy Week traditions going back centuries are re-lived each year and they will astound you. ‘Carpets’ made of colored wood shavings and flowers line the streets, and processions of floats and purple-robed men and black-clad women parade through town on Good Friday. It is a breath-taking sight.

The beautiful highland lake district of Guatemala offers a fabulous climate and is a place of spiritual renewal. We invite you to practice yoga with us on the shore of Lake Atitlan.

Folklore in Guatemala is most interesting and is best expressed in textiles, which incorporate more than 325 variations of style and color schemes, each with an historical or geographic meaning.

While you may not think of Guatemala as a culinary destination, we hope to change your mind on our Culinary Adventure. Visit markets, kitchens and coffee plantations and learn about local herbs, spices and roots, putting all to use in a cooking class!
