Which governmental agencies may be useful to me?

TOURIST OFFICES/EMBASSIES

The national tourist agency Autoridad de Turismo Panameño (ATP) has its headquarters in the Centro Atlapa on Via Israel in Panama City. ATP also has an information counter located at the airport. In addition, there are many tourist centers dispersed throughout the country. The ATP offices found throughout Panama are there to answer questions and help visitors explore the country. That said, we find them to be only nominally helpful.

More than 50 foreign embassies and consulates are located in Panama City. The U.S. Embassy and U.S. Consular Section are located in Avenida Demetrio Basilio Lakas, Building No.783 in the Clayton section of Panama City. The international mailing address is: Apartado 0816-02561, Zona 5, Panama, Republic of Panama. The telephone numbers for the Embassy are 507-207-7000, after hour emergencies, 507-207-7200; Consular Section 507-207-7030 and fax 507-207-7278. The Embassy web site is http://panama.usembassy.gov/.

Americans living or traveling in Panama are encouraged to register with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate through the State Department’s travel registration web site so that they can obtain updated information on travel and security within Panama. Americans without Internet access may register directly with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy or Consulate to contact them in case of emergency.
