travel reads

You should never be without a good book while traveling. One never knows what one's traveling companions might be like, so at least with a book, you have something to retreat to after dinner. However, this group was so wonderful and we were all so chatty you didn't want to leave the table!

Books we are all reading

  • Jean – 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Finally, I've had this book for years. It is a HOOT.
  • Bob – Worldly Philosophers by Heilbrown (the book he read in college)
  • Jim – The Darien Disaster, the history of the failed Scotch takeover of the Darien jungle. What were they thinking?  (Jim read at least 4 books during the trip)
  • Donna – Brother Odd by Dean Koontz, one of the few English paperbooks she found on the boat.
  • Dean – Fenwick Travers & The Panama Canal – very light historic fiction about the revolution in 1903 and the building of the canal
  • Pam – Girl who played with Fire by Lars whats-his-name, the Swede. She's rereading the first 2 books in prep for the 3rd one coming out in end of May
  • Barbara – Time Travelers Wife for her book group
  • Margaret – Great American Travel Writers edited by Paul Theroux
  • Mike – The Art of Eating by MFK Fisher
