offset your carbon footprintYou've already taken the first step by booking your vacation through JB Journeys, a company dedicated to Sustainable Travel. We operate
from a virtual office, offer only E-documents, and give you a refillable water bottle. But you can do more. air travel & greenhouse gasAir travel is important - it brings people together!
But airplanes account for 2.5% of all global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The airlines are working on it. United has used a mix of biofuel and traditional jet fuel since 2016 out of its Los Angeles hub. Virgin Atlantic has begun using a special fuel of biomass. Cape Air, a commuter carrier based in Hyannis on Cape Cod just signed on to be the first to operate an all-electric plane starting in 2021. Can you imagine an airplane with no greenhouse gas emissions! All in good time. But why wait? purchase a carbon offset nowJB Journeys has chosen to support an amazing agro-ecology reforestation project in central Guatemala. Community Cloudforest Conservation (CCFC) is a US-based NGO working with students from local Mayan communities living within the cloudforest near the city of Coban. CCFC offers environmental education programs throughout the school year based on the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Bird Sleuth. Additionally, an intensive one month leadership training program is offered to young Mayan women. Among topics taught are nutrition, agro-ecology, health, family planning, career and education options. Each successful young woman must also plant, at her home, a small plot to include 16 trees plus heirloom and traditional crops. And she is awarded a scholarship to continue in school for another year!
The results are a better educated person who can supply healthy food for her family with additional to take to market, and to begin re-forestation of an area that has been overcut for several decades. Over the years, many of these young ladies have finished secondary school, attended university, and gone into careers. This group tends to marry later and have smaller families. These new skills give them reason to stay in Guatemala, rather than feel the need to emigrate. We feel this holistic approach deserves our support and we invite you to go neutral by purchasing a carbon offset. |
