At JB Journeys, we are birders ourselves, with years of travel and office management of briding tours.
Our bird guy is Eric Stager, an Austin, TX-based biologist. Eric has birded since he was a kid on the Texas coast. He has birded internationally as well and heads up bird adventures for JB Journeys. He is always paired up with a local expert. Some of his tours also help raise funds for Travis Audubon Society in Austin, where he teaches birding classes, leads guided walks, and serves on the board of directors. He's well-organized and a lot of fun in the field.

costa rica birding - Dec 2022

Great birding in a small peaceful country

Costa Rica is perfect for a new birder wanting to dip their toes into the tropics as a lot can be seen in a short time in a small area. But also great for experienced birders who are looking to add to a list. Visiting in December gets you there after the rainy season but ready for migration.
This is an easy tour using only one hotel after the first night near the airport. Rancho Naturalista is one of the best birding lodges in Central America. We'll use the Rancho as a base and visit birding sites nearby, returning each night to this comfortable ac

PANAMA birding - FEB 2022
Bird the Canopy Tower and Bocas del Toro

We are excited to offer this opportunity to travel and bird Panamá and stay at two of the country’s finest eco-lodges.  A quick flight from the US and an hour later you are in the big middle of the rainforest, with its abundant birds and wildlife, birding at the Canopy Tower.  Then another quick flight to the archipelago of Bocas del Toro and Tranquilo Bay.   At the Canopy Tower, overlooking Soberanía National Park as well as the Panamá Canal, one has eye-level-with-the-canopy views of stunning rainforest birds, as well as monkeys and sloth. Perhaps the most well-known birding spot in Panamá is Pipeline Road, just a short distance away. Pipeline has a strange history with an excellent conclusion: today, birds and wildlife abound here. A never-used petroleum pipeline and service road, it stretches for about 25 miles and many consider it to be the hottest birding spot in Central America.  (See more)
