Once off limits, Cuba is open and the birding is fabulous. We’ll begin with a full day in Havana to see the sights, learn history, and hear some music. Then we’ll head out to find some birds! Cuba currently has 26 endemic birds and we have a good chance to see most of them, including beauties like the Cuban Trogon, the national bird, the Bee Hummingbird, the world’s smallest bird., and the adorable Cuban Tody. We’ll travel to Viñales in western Cuba, surely the island’s most beautiful region; Zapata Peninsula and Playa Larga (aka The Bay of Pigs), the most biologically diverse part of the island; and Topes de Collante, and finally the beautiful Cuban keys.  This tour is led by Cuban ornithologist Maikel Cañizares Morera who will be assisted by JB Journeys' Eric Stager. These two will make a great team!
JB Journeys follows Treasury Department regulations and stays up-to-date on all the latest restrictions. Our tours are fully legal. Our commitment to small groups and local accommodations and experiences is a good example of supporting the Cuban people, which is the visa category we apply to our tours.
